Your body is speaking
Your body is always speaking—are you listening?
That racing heart before a meeting...
The tightness in your chest during conflict...
Your jaw clenching after a restless night…
The sinking feeling in your gut when scared or overwhelmed...
The pulsing in your temple when your daughter orders Door Dash AGAIN...🙃
These aren’t random symptoms—they’re MESSAGES. This is INTEROCEPTION: Your body’s ability to sense its internal state.
As a health coach focused on emotional resilience, I help clients not just notice these signals—but respond to them in ways that support nervous system regulation and long-term well-being.
Don’t wait for that stress-induced jaw tension to turn into a cracked tooth—I speak from experience 😉🤪 🦷
Here’s how to practice interoceptive awareness when stress arises:
1️⃣ Pause & Feel:
What are you sensing right now?
(Tension, shallow breath, racing thoughts, pit in stomach?)
🧠 Name it without judgment: “I feel anxious in my belly,” “My shoulders are tense.”
2️⃣ Soften & Breathe:
Inhale slowly through the nose, exhale longer through the mouth--Remember, we've talked about this, it's all about the Vagus nerve :)
🫁 This calms the nervous system and creates space to choose your response.
3️⃣ Respond With Care:
Ask: What does my body need right now?
A walk, a stretch, a glass of water, a break from the noise? A pumpkin spice latte (not for me, but my clients are already eagerly embracing the seasonal pick me up) 🍂
🌿 Small, intentional actions signal safety and build trust within.
4️⃣ Reflect:
Later, consider: What triggered that response? What helped?
🪞 Reflection builds long-term resilience, not just short-term relief.
📚 Studies consistently show that regular interoceptive awareness practice improves emotion regulation, self-agency, and stress coping capacity (Price et al., 2011, 2012, 2017, 2019).
🌱 The more fluently you listen to your body’s signals, the more clearly and calmly you can move through life’s challenges—with confidence and care.
