What Loons Taught Me
If you’ve ever watched a loon dive, you know it’s not just a MOMENT — it’s a PROCESS. Graceful. Intentional. Deep.
Loons don’t skim the surface. They plunge into cold, dark water to find what sustains them.
It takes strength, stillness, trust (and yes, powerful legs). I've come to realize that health coaching and resilience look a lot like that (less so the need for powerful legs, but maybe). 🙂🦵🏼
As I observed loons this weekend at none other than Squam Lake, NH, the site of the movie On Golden Pond🪙(which features a supporting cast of beautiful loons), the following occurred to me:
1. Coaching Is a Deep Dive 🪞
So much of modern wellness can stay floating on the surface, with quick fixes, hacks, and symptom management. But beneath that are the things that need to be addressed for sustainable health:
✳️ Patterns we repeat without realizing
✳️ Beliefs or values we’ve outgrown
✳️ Emotions we’ve pushed aside
✳️ Habits that no longer serve us
Like the loon, my clients are invited to dive in--into their vision for health & wellness and the innate strengths they have to get there (could be strong legs, let's not count that out). Because that’s where real change begins.
2. There is Strength in Stillness ☮️
Loons slow their heart rate to dive deeper and to be able to stay submerged longer. In coaching, we do something similar.
⌚ We slow down (with breathwork)
🤫 We get quiet (with questions to reflect on)
👂🏼 We listen (for insights and motivations to propel you forward)
Breathwork, space to dream and think, and aha moments that motivate to action are some of the ways we rewire our brains and bodies and provide the building blocks for long term resilience.
3. Returning to the Surface Brings Renewal🌤️
And loons always resurface. They come back with what they need to thrive. That’s the essence of coaching.
➡️ We dive in with intention
➡️ We gather strength, clarity, and "nourishment" for your path forward
➡️And we rise — more aligned, grounded, and resilient
Whether you're rebuilding energy, rethinking habits, or moving through a season of change 👉 It’s a thoughtful process, not a quick fix.
Resilience isn’t something you chase, it’s something you find from within, under that beautiful surface of yours, that can be strengthened—one intentional dive at a time.
